Tablighi Jamat
assalamu alaikum :)
bismillah.
yesterday for salat ul maghrib i decided to head over to one of my favorite masjids, mission bend masjid. now i like this mosque for a couple of reasons: its brand new; the huffaz are usually guys around my age with amazing voices; and it has extra high ceilings, amplifying the recitation which only adds to the effect.
after parking my car in the uncle-made-gravel-driveway, (which i believe is the reason behind my mutliple flat tires), i racked my shoes, performed wuddu, and finally made way into the prayer hall. thats when i saw it...sleeping bags. my eyes, like my mamoo shareef at a paan stand, began to assess the hall. yes, there, perched in the corner of the prayer hall were sleeping bags, straw mats, and makeshift suitcases made of plastic shopping bags. this meant only one thing: the tablighi jamaat had arrived. all 64785634756997586. and with them they brought their pots and pans.
now you sit there, stroking your beard, wondering what the heck im talking about. recall if you may...you know, those uncles that come over and knock on your door asking for your dad, while your dad, realizing whats about to happen tells you to tell them that he's not home. and then you tell the uncles that father isnt home, but thats no problem for them. they just pull you outside infront of all of your friends and give you a 2 hour talk on why you should attend the masjid 5 times a day while your friends point, stare, and laugh at you. yes, 2 hours of hardcore urdu, of which you only understand 6 words. but now its too late to use the "mujhe urdu nahin aati" excuse because youve already replied with the "haan ji uncle, inshallah aya karoongah masjid." all this while your father peeks through the blinds continuously thanking Allah for not being in your place.
dont get me wrong now, i have nothing against tablighis. alhamdulillah, theyve done a lot for the ummah, and inshallah they will continue to spread their message. may Allah Ta'ala increase our iman and reward them for all their efforts. ameen.
by the way, a friend of mine, known to the cyberworld as "jaysh," posted his thoughts on his trip with the jamat. grab a hold of your biryani bellies, read, and laugh:

Assalamualaikum
Tableeghis are nice people, why does everyone poke fun at them?
brother i dont understand..
i can see that you hold respect in your heart for these people who are going out in the path of Allah to remind there fellow brothers in islam to do what the Prophet (SAW) wanted them to do, yet by posting the story above..
im sorry but you made them sound annoying. whether they are or not, if their doing something good for our ummah, i dont think we should poke fun at them..
